Sevilla and Their LaLiga Title Chances

Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid have had very disappointing seasons so far, but one team has improved from last season ans that team is Sevilla. Last season, Sevilla were on the title race until the end but they were not able to lift LaLiga title, but Sevilla instead of regressing like we’ve seen with Barcelona and Atlético, Sevilla have improved from last year and right now are in a very close race for LaLiga title with Real Madrid.

The first person that should be credited with Sevilla’s success this season is Julen Lopetegui. Sevilla’s coach has been able to find the right system for the team with a 4-3-3 and the results are there, for the most part if we exclude the early Champions League elimination of Sevilla. Sevilla are a tough team to play against, defensively they are solid as it gets and with very few mistakes made, Kounde in particular has been amazing on defense and that’s the main reason why Europe’s biggest teams are very interested on getting his services.

A player that deserves a lot of credit for the success of Sevilla is Ivan Rakitic. The Croatian midfielder is the mastermind of the midfield for Sevilla and everything starts when he has the ball. The team always finds it’s way when Rakitic has the ball and controls the tempo of the game. Reges and Jordan have been great compliments for Rakitic on midfield.

Sevilla are are 5 points away from Real Madrid, and with one less game. Sevilla are very close on getting into Real Madrid’s heels and put some pressure to them and make the title race even more interesting despite Atlético and Barcelona’s terrible seasons. There is a case to be made that the pressure could be the doom of Sevilla and their current title hopes. Many teams with the potential to challenge Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético at some point collapsed and ended earlier than expected their title hopes.

Sevilla are in a great position to win their first LaLiga title since the 1945-46 season, their only LaLiga title so far. Only time will tell if Sevilla will be able to maintain their current form and maybe win La Liga.
