Yesterday was not a great day for us betting the MLB, just to be transparent. My picks went 1-3-3 yesterday, which could be better, but it was certainly not an ideal day to start betting. However, if you bet 1 unit on each of these bets, you should be at least about even on your bets for the day if you tagged me.
Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers: Tigers -140/UNDER 9.5
The Texas Rangers not a good baseball team winning just 35 games so far this season. The Tigers, however, are on a 5 game winning streak. There is decent value to be had taking the Tigers to win this game at -140 which is the bet I’d lay today. Run total is set at 9.5 runs which seems a bit steep considering the Tigers have only seen that run total once in the last 5 games.
Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies: UNDER 8.5
We might tail unders today just to switch it up with the way this article is going. Moneyline seems like a difficult bet this game as both teams are 5-5 over their last 10 games. However, both teams have seem over 8.5 runs only 4 times over their last 10. If I have to bet this game, I’m going with the under as its the only trend that seems like it could be worth placing a unit on.
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox: Yankees -140
One of the best rivalries in sports continues with another entry into their series just a week after their last. In the last series, the Yankees won 2-1. The Yankees have been on a tear winning 7 of their last 10 games. The Red Sox have won just 4 of their last 10. The starter for the Red Sox in this game is Tanner Houck is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA while Jordan Montgomery is 3-5 with a 4.18 ERA. While these two pitchers seem to combine for a potential over, that run total is set at 9.5 which is very, very high. The Red Sox have seen that run total 5 times, and the Yankees have seen it 4 times in their last 10 games. In their last series, that run total was reached just once. I’m sticking with just Yankees moneyline on this one.
San Diego Padres at Miami Marlins: OVER 8
The Padres and Marlins will face off today in what could be a high scoring affair. Both of these teams have recent contests that had very high run totals. The Padres have seen 14 and 32 runs in 2 of their last 5 games while the Marlins have seen 19 and 11 in 2 of their last 5 games. Each team has seen over 8 runs 5 times in their last 10 games as well. Neither team gives me much hope for the moneyline, so I’ll stick with OVER 8 RUNS as my bet.
Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Indians: TB -145/UNDER 9
The Rays have won 7 of their last 10 while the Indians have won 6 of their last 10 games. Neither team has seen over 9 runs in their games very often with the Rays seeing it 2 times in their last 10 games and the Indians seeing it 3 times in their last 10 games. TB winning is a gut call at this point as they’ve also won 3 of their last 5 games while Cleveland has won just 2 of their last 5 games.
Chicago Cubs at St Louis Cardinals: Cardinals -120/OVER 8.5
The Cubs have lost 2/3 of their games in this series against the Cardinals while the Cardinals have won 4 out of their last 5 games. These teams have seen over 8.5 runs in 2 out of their 3 contests in this series so far, but the pitchers starting today combined for just over 7 runs per starting. However, if trends hold, the Cardinals should win this high scoring affair.
Los Angeles Angels at Minnesota Twins: UNDER 9.5
Neither of these teams is doing well right now each winning just 4 of their last 10 games. The run total for this game is set high at 9.5, but neither team sees that total often lately. The Twins do see the over often as they are 6-3-1 against the run total in their last 10, but they’ve seen over 9.5 runs just 3 times in their last 10 while the Angels have seen it 3 times in their last 10 as well. I don’t like betting either team to win this game, but the under seems like a decent shot.
Oakland Athletics at Seattle Mariners: OVER 7.5
Both of these teams have played good baseball all season and are each 5-5 in their last 10 making me unsure of how confidently I’d bet the moneyline for either team. However, 7.5 just isn’t a lot of runs. The Athletics do not see that total often at just 2 times in their last 10 games. The Mariners, however, see that run total much more often including 6 of their last 10 games. The combined ERA between the starting pitchers for this contest is just around 7 runs per start.
San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers: Dodgers -170/UNDER 7.5
Both starting pitchers in this contest have 10 wins making the moneyline difficult to bet. Each team has played well recently as the Giants have won 7 of their last 10 games and the Dodgers have won 6 of their last 10 games. The Dodgers have dropped 2 of their last 3 games against the Giants, but their starting pitcher today has lost just 1 game. 7.5 Runs isn’t a lot of runs, much like the last game I picked. I think we’ll see at least that many runs tonight as the Dodgers have seen that total in 7 of their last 10 games while the Giants have seen it in 5 of their last 10 games. The reigning World Series Champ pick up a win tonight while the run totals are high.
