Monday Night Raw Recap (January 11, 2021)

Before I get into the recap, I wanted it to be known that it was announced that Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID and is now in quarantine. Drew may miss the Royal Rumble.

Randy Orton and Triple H Segment

After there was a video package for the show from last week, Triple H came out. He only got a few seconds to say anything before Randy Orton interrupted. The two exchanged some words with Randy telling Triple H that he deserved the championship since Drew was gone. Triple H then said he would need to win the Royal Rumble. At the end, Randy had challenged Triple H to a match. Triple H refused at first, but then punched Randy in the face. Randy took that as Triple H accepting his challenge.

Charlotte Flair vs. Lacey Evans

Winner: Lacey Evans

This match started with Charlotte forcing Lacey Evans into a corner, and then Lacey was knocked down by a running shoulder. Before the match had started, Charlotte had said in an interview that she and Ric Flair was fine even though they argued last week. At the moment Ric Flair came down. Charlotte had much of the control of the match until Lacey could get out of the way of a big boot. Charlotte still managed to get the pin, but Ric put Lacey’s foot on the rope to stop the pin. Charlotte, angry at Ric, tried to do a suplex, but he tripped her and held her feet down for Lacey to win the match.

Jeff Hardy vs. Jaxson Ryker/ Elias

Winner: Jaxson Ryker/Jeff Hardy

The next match was Jeff Hardy vs. Jaxson Ryker. Jaxson beat up Jeff for a good chunk of it before Jeff was able to take him down. Jeff was about to do a Swanton Bomb, but Elias distracted him, allowing Jaxson to win with a roll-up.

Jeff then challenged Elias to fight him and told him that Elias didn’t want the world to know that Jaxson was better. Elias then told Jaxson not to interfere in any way. Elias got some good body shots as he had Jeff in the corner. However, Jeff was able to win the match by doing a Whisper in the Wind. Elias kicked out. Jeff did a Twist of fate and a Swanton to win the match.

The Miz and Morrison vs. Sheamus and Keith Lee

Winner: Sheamus and Keith Lee

John Morrison started the match with Sheamus. Sheamus did some good offense before tagging in Keith Lee to do some tag-team combo work. Keith Lee then threw John into The Miz before tagging Sheamus back in. They did work back and forth, beating up John Morrison and The Miz.

The Miz hit a DDT, but Sheamus was able to kick out after almost a near fall. Then it was The Miz and John’s turn to beat up Sheamus in the corner. Keith Lee got tagged in once again and went through The Miz and John with ease. The match ended with Sheamus tagging himself in and did the Brogue Kick to John for the win.

Sheamus vs. Keith Lee

Winner: Keith Lee

I was confused that before the commercial break, both men seemed happy and okay. But after the break, they seemed d they seemed upset with each other. It did seem that because of the COVID news, the roster seemed thin, but the commentators should’ve at least acknowledged why we got this impromptu match. There were some solid strikes before Keith Lee hit a headbutt. He then hit Sheamus with several blows to the chest as he tied him up in the ring rope. Sheamus was able to turn the tide briefly after that, but Keith hit a Spirit Bomb to win the match. In the end, Keith tried to fist bump Sheamus, but Sheamus pulled him in for a hug instead.

T-Bar vs. Xavier Woods

Winner: T Bar

Xavier Woods came out alone to take on T Bar, who had Mustafa Ali and the rest of Retribution there. T Bar dominated the match for a good while before Xavier did a jawbreaker. Xavier did a missile dropkick that sent T Bar out of the ropes. He then did a dropkick through the ropes. Mustafa distracted Xavier, which allowed T Bar to do the Eyes Wide Shit to win the match.

Bobby Lashley vs. Matt Riddle (United States Championship)

& Matt Riddle vs. MVP

Winner: First Match: Bobby Lashley Second Match: Matt Riddle

Bobby Lashley was still angry at losing last week on Monday Night Raw, so he attacked Matt Riddle before the bell rung. The referee asked Matt if he could continue with the match and Matt said he could. This match was for the US Championship. Bobby proceeded to beat him up in the corner.

Matt shoved Bobby into the ring post, and then he did a Floating Bro However, Bobby caught him midair and slammed him hard into the mat. He then followed it up with a Hurt Lock to win the match.

After the match, Matt wanted MVP in a match, a match that MVP accepted. It went to a commercial break, and when Raw came back on, MVP did a Ballin’ Elbow. Matt changed the tide of the match, but Bobby stopped his momentum, hitting him with a spear. Matt won by disqualification.

Drew Gulak vs. AJ Styles

Winner: AJ Styles

This was a quick match. Before the match started Drew Gulak said he wanted to be in the Royal Rumble. Adam Pearce said he needed to beat AJ Styles to earn his spot.

AJ had control for most of the match. However, Drew was able to change things up a bit, getting in some good offense. He almost won a few times as well. AJ threw him over the rope. Drew was distracted by Omos standing there, which allowed AJ to bring him back in the ring and do a Phenomenal Forearm for the win.

Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax vs. Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose

Winner: Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax

Before the match, Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose said they would declare themselves for the declared themselves for the women’s Royal Rumble match. Once the match got started, Shayna Baszler beat up Mandy considerably but failed to do the arm stomp. Mandy tagged in Dana, and Nia Jax came in. Nia threw her around with ease, and Mandy was tagged back in. Mandy had some good spots, but it was to no avail when Nia did a Samoan Drop. Dana broke the pin. Nia then stacked them up in the corner so she could do her running splash. However, much to her dismay, Shayna tagged herself in and got the win doing the Kirifuda Clutch.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton

Winner: No Contest

Randy Orton took his time getting into the ring. As soon as he did, Triple H hit him in the mouth. Randy was able to hit him back. Randy kicked him in the face and then sent Triple H out of the ring. Triple H pushed Randy into the steel steps causing both men to fall.

Triple H was able to get his sledgehammer from under the ring, and just as he was about to use it, the lights dimmed. Both men looked confused, but it was then that Triple H’s sledgehammer was on fire.

Once the lights went out and then came back on, Triple H was gone, and Alexa Bliss was standing there as a distorted version of the Firefly Fun House song played in the background. She made some motions with her arm and then shot out a fireball to Randy’s face. Randy went to the floor holding his face, and the show ended.
